    SunSundayJanJanuary31st2016 Strength to Resist

One of the most difficult things we have to come to terms with is that no matter how hard we try to remove sin from our life, the struggle against temptation never goes away. However the fact that we constantly fight the urge to sin does not give us any reason to give into it. Many times we use the excuse "Well that's just who I am". The problem is that completely goes against what God has told us that when we trust in Christ our old life is gone and a new life begins. The only reason we stay the way we were before is because we refuse to give our entire selves over to God. We can't allow our passions to override our faith & knowledge of what God wants for us.

Often our culture determines whether or not a belief is valued simply trusting in our emotions or giving validity to something based on whether people passionately believe in it. We must realize that truth has to be based on something that doesn’t change. So many people today allow their view of scripture to be changed based on personal experience. It is hard to accept God's Word. It speaks about sinful desires we don't want to admit. It goes against what is accepted in many segments of our culture. But if we don't have something solid on which to base our faith then we truly have nothing. Our relationship with the church helps us create a stronger faith and find support in times when that faith is tested.

As we continue our walk through Ephesians we get into the verses that talk about finding unity through the grace of Jesus. No one is a stranger in God's family. No one deserves to be there more than anyone else. However human nature can still cause divisions among us. This is a problem that the early church dealt with as well. In the Jewish faith, cultural division had been institutionalized. Even at the temple, non-Jewish converts to Judaism were separated from the inner court by a wall. It was short enough to see over but the penalty to cross it was death. Seriously, it was death. 19th century archaeologists even uncovered some of the ancient signs with this warning. So it's no surprise that the early church has difficulties living out the fact that God said we are all ONE in Christ. We have to overcome the same problem.

As the new year begins, our church family will be looking at the book of Ephesians to hear a message that is broad and very applicable for today. It's not address specific issues in their church from 2000 years ago or dealing with similar things. Instead the book of Ephesians gives practical advice on how all Christians need to accept the grace of Christ and find their daily strength through Him.

We do not have audio from the first message in this series but it is a study on the saving grace offered to us through the sacrifice of Jesus. Read through the scripture below to see the offer of forgiveness given to the world. We can have strength in our life because we know that what we do for God doesn’t determine whether or not He accepts us. Some may use that as an excuse not to serve Him but for me it is empowering. I can serve without fear. I can follow without guilt. I can work out of love for Him.

    Ephesians 1: 15-20
    2 Timothy 2:1
    Ephesians 2: 1-7
    Romans 3: 10, 20, 23
    Ephesians 2: 8-10

Creating a community that is equipped to bring Christ to our city.

We are here for you. Everything we do is to glorify God, create a meaningful relationship with Him, and support others who are striving for those same goals. Come be a part of our growing family.
