Our society has so many different views of love.  The Bible even talks about different kinds of love.  But the love God wants us to have in our relationships is the kind that mirrors His love for us.  While we can't ever do that completely, the strive for this unconditional, sacrificial love is what gives us a chance for truly great relationships.  In this sermon we'll not only talk about love's different definitions, but what it looks like acted out in every day life.  Listen to the sermon by clicking on the "Download" link below.  We've again given you different resources if you want to study more on this topic.

Three articles that talk about the 3 (main) words in Greek that were used to describe love.

SunSundayJanJanuary19th2014 Mr. & Mrs. Betterhalf -- Foundational Expectations
byJeremy Flanagan Tagged No tags 0 comments Add comment
Marriages often start off on the wrong foot because couples don’t agree which direction their feet should go.  If you each expect to travel a different path than the other expects, then it’s no wonder you end up separated on your journey.  The sermon focuses on what God tells us marriage can offer and what things that only He can provide.  We also looked at the difference between decisions that have to be made, desires that we want our of our relationships, and when these turn into expectations.  When something is an expectation then we're not appreciative when our spouse, friend, or someone else meets that expectation.  It leaves no room for appreciation, love, or grace.

You can download or listen to the sermon at the bottom of this post.  Below are some books that we recommend for relationships, especially dealing with the subject of "expectations".

For those looking to start a relationship or to go back and re-evaluate the decisions you should have discussed before entering your current relationship:
Preparing for Marriage: Discover God's Plan for a Lifetime of Love

For those in a marriage where unmet expectations are causing conflict:
As Long as We Both Shall Live: Experiencing the Marriage You've Always Wanted

For any relationship at any stage, we recommend the "Boundaries" series of books by Henry Cloud:

Boundaries: When to Say Yes, How to Say No to Take Control of Your Life

    Boundaries in Marriage

Boundaries in Dating: How Healthy Choices Grow Healthy Relationships

Boundaries with Kids: How Healthy Choices Grow Healthy Children
